Maughan McDougallIt is unclear as to why certain people were victimized possibly for their support / sympathy for Family Compact. Markham was a hotbed for rebels in 1837 rebellion. One of the accused, Emanuel Tomlinson, was imprisoned as a rebel in Dec. 1837. Then again, this testimony may just be evidence of organized crime. It is known that horses were poisoned or had their tongues cut out and that barn burnings in Markham Township in the 1880's were supposedly the result of Tory / Reform feuding.
